June 16 ~ Ingonish to Liscombe Mills ~ the Longer Way :)

We knew that today would be a longer than normal driving day so we got started a bit earlier than usual.  Also the lodge we stayed at put us in a room right over the kitchen so we had a "wake up" call!  We would not recommend staying at a snooty place in a National Park... FYI but this was our first not good experience so consider ourselves lucky!  And today's stay more than makes up for that! More in tomorrow's blog! I'm expecting to capture some really cool shots... stay tuned for BIRDS!!
Anyway.  Today.  We did some backtracking.  Roads are clearly marked at the intersections but if you miss those single indicators, you could be like us, and do a bit of extra exploring!  Plus we had to turn back for the pirate ship.  We needed to turn around after we realized that there was a ferry on the route we had chosen and that it may not be operating.  On the upside we took a ferry by accident that cut off about 20k, so in the end we only did about a 100k extra!  It is going to be really boring on the straight familiar roads of home.  One other upside is that on such curvy hilly roads the views are very different when travelling the opposite direction.  Randy had fish n chips again today but I opted for a chicken salad!
Today's pics in no particular order...  and good night!

Heading back down the Cabot Trail.
Looks good from a distance but we would not recommend it.

Headstone from the mid 1800's the names have eroded into history.
Lighthouse at the entrance to Cape Breton
If we had taken the proper road we would have missed this!
Infrastructure under repair!
Of course we turned around for this fellow: Great Blue Heron!
There was a geocache at this lookout point!  And chickadees!
What the Heck?? He must have had motors though, because it took about 10 k to catch up to him!! Cool part was he was near Pirate's Cove!
Boom!  We drove right up a ferry ramp!  Paid $7 and saved 20k ;)
I got one pic and the ferry ride was over! :)
